Infection

So this week at the VA my class four patient was sent home. He had just visited the lab prior to his appointment for blood work. He's had nasopharangeal cancer so every month he gets his blood drawn. So anyway the lab called up to the clinic because his WBC count was extremely low, making him very susceptible to infection. Of course him being a class four we sent him home and rescheduled him in a month. I hope he comes back then but I was really glad I didn't treat him. He really should camp out at home and not go outside because his WBC count was that low. He also was so grateful because he felt "funny" but didn't know why. So he was glad to be informed about that. I felt like we were keeping his best interest in mind and that made me feel a lot better than treating him that day.

Screening

Today was kind of rough. My patient pulled a no show on me. So I called around all morning for patients and I got a lady to come in for a screening. She is a class 3 so it turned out to be really great. She seemed really hesitant to pay so I worry that she won't come back. I'll just have to see what happens. My goal is to get her all done when she comes in. I need to push myself to be faster.

Mockboard Day

Today was mockboard. It was an interesting and frustrating day for me. However, I did fairly well on mockboard. That was my goal going into mockboards. I just wanted to do a lot better than the first and I did. I learned a lot more about the process this time around. I also understand the paperwork a lot better. During these next 2 months until the final mockboard I'm going to really try a lot harder to get better. I want my last mockboard to be a breeze and get 100 %. I know I can do it too.

Simulation Day

Today was my simulation day. I saw 2 quads of 3 and 5 in the morning and then I saw a 1A and 1b in the afternoon. It's really a tiring day. The simulation day wasn't that big of a deal because I've done that many patients in one day before so I'm glad I had the practice. I love days like today becasue I push myselft to be fast and I know that I can be. I just need to always make a conscious effort to push myself everyday.

FIRST DAY BACK, BEST DAY EVER

So yesterday both my patients cancelled so it was a scamble to get some for today. Turns out my first patient of the semester is my mockboard 1, 2, and board patient. He was a board patient 10 years ago so he's been through the process before and know how it goes. He also speaks English so there is no language barrier. I can call him MYSELF, whick is awesome. So I talked him through everything again and is totally okay with it. He's like an angel sent from heaven. All four quads qualify to it's basically a miracle. Today just can't get any better. After the appointment I couldn't even think I was so happy. I love that I get to clean him for my mockboards because I'll have an excellent idea of what he'll be like for boards. I'll just pray from now until then that he comes (on time) for every appointment.

Injections Galore

So I'm sitting good with requirements so today I was the student out. My patient cancelled so I basically gave injections in dental all morning. It was a good experience for me to work in front of the doctors (which I've never done) and to basically get in and get out. I'm so glad that I've read Malamed a million times because I had to be prepared basically for any injection. I did a PSA, IA, GP, and infiltrations. I did well on all and thought it was a really good experience to be in that higher pressure setting.

Class 3

So my class 3 pt from last year came in today and was again a class 3. Yeah. So I'm getting really good experiences. I feel like I've learned a ton this last month and a half. I seen a lot of 3's which has taught me a ton. I'm better at exploring, ultrasonicing, lateral pressure, accessory fulcrums, etc. I've learned a lot. I hope to continue learning so that by May next year I won't even doubt my skills.
