Exploring

Today I feel like I did better at exploring than on Monday. It will be a skill that all of the sudden just clicks. I hope it clicks soon. I really try hard to adapt and keep a light touch. I think I'll take my typodont home to practice this weekend as well as the extra oral exam PE so that I can pass it off on Monday. YEAH!! I can't wait for the weekend.

Under the Gums

Today we finally explored under the gumline in the gingival sulcus. It was fun. Chelsea was a good partner to have. She didn't get made at me too much for messing up. Just Kidding:) I think I'm going to take my typodont home today so I can practice before next clinic. Clinic is getting more and more eventful and more and more fun. So today I passed off 2 PE's and did great on them. If I keep up the good work I'll be going great. YEAH for me. I'm being weird. It's been a long day.

Intraoral Exam

Today we did the intraoral exam. It's fun to actually look in mouths and identify things and look for abnormalities. Clinic goes by a lot faster too when we are busy doing these things. I wanted to pass off the health history today but I'll have to do it on Monday. It'll give me a lot of time to study it and get it down and pass it off. I love this and can't wait to learn more.

Instrumentation

Today I learned more on instrumentation, like how to old the instrumentk, mirror, and positioning of the wrist. Everyday in clinic we do more and more things that make every day more and more exciting. I can't wait until we actually start working on patients, even though that brings on added stress of FINDING patients. I really am loving what I do. It's a lot of fun and I could see myself doing this for a career. Good thing huh. Wednesday I plan to pass off the next PE. I've done very well on them so far and I plan to keep it up.

Understanding Apointments

So today we talked more on the HHx and overviewed PT appointments. The big picture is finally starting to come together. I understand what we do with the patient, the forms we fill out, and what to do on the computer - at least what they've taught us so far. Clinic is becoming more and more fun the more we learn and understand what we are even doing. On Monday I want to pass off the operator positioning PE. It should be pretty easy. I'm going to practice on David during the week. He'll just love it.

Please Let the Health History Be History

Today we learned how to do the health history interview and documentation. It is a lot of information and takes a lot of time. There is a lot of informaiton to cover and it's hard to remember everything that needs to be written in the treatment record. I'm glad we have the clinic manuel to help us out with that. I just know I'm going to get an old person in here that is taking about 5 medications and has 6 diseases or conditions that need reviewing. It will just take forever to do the health history on them. That's why I need to practice so I can get fast. When we do start having patients come in, I can see it being awkward to do the HHx portion of the appointment. I know I'll just have to practice being subjective, caring, and understanding. I just want to get good enough that the health history is history in my mind - I can just do it without thinking about it.

Soaring Eagle

Today I passed off the eagle soft PE. It was cake. Next week I plan to pass off the set up and take down PE on Monday. I wanted to do the take down today, but it will probably be easier to do them both together on Monday. Today they threw a lot of information at us but I think I'm keeping up on it all. It's just a lot of procedures to memorize...procedures for everything. Eagle Soft is getting better the more I fiddle with it. I just fear messing up schedules or treatments. The TA's and instructors are awesome though. They don't mind answering all my dumb questions. Well, the weekend is coming but all I have to look forward to is studying for monday. It never ends.
